Stadler to invest CHF 33m in Biel steel foundry

Stadler plans to invest CHF 33 million in modernising and extending its Biel steel foundry, whose castings are used in rail vehicles worldwide; in July 2026 Stadler Stahlguss AG filed a building application for a new dispatch hall and an extension of the existing building. The conversion is planned for early 2027 and the extended facilities are due to be running from 2028; the 115 jobs at the site are to be kept and grown by 5%. Plans include a solar array of about 8,900 m², roughly 15% lower energy consumption, about 80% less production waste thanks to better reuse of moulding sand, and feeding process heat into the district heating network; the date is the day of the report.
