Poundland's management filed a notice of intention to appoint administrators on 29 October 2026, giving the discount chain ten days to find a rescue deal. About 12,000 employees are affected; Prime Minister Andy Burnham said the government was ready to support staff and called for answers on why an offer for the business had been rejected. The headcount is not in the job-cuts field because it is still open whether stores will close (BBC, 31 October 2026).
