Barclays put its job cuts for this year at 5,000, about 5% of its workforce, when presenting nine-month results on 22 October 2026. Around 1,000 roles have already gone and the remaining 4,000 are due by the end of the fourth quarter, mainly operational and administrative functions. The bank links the cuts to multi-year technology investment including AI and booked £201m of structural cost-reduction charges in the third quarter (Cinco Días, 22 Oct 2026; second source: Expansión, 22 Oct 2026).
