SBB to fold SBB Cargo back into the group from January 2027

SBB is transferring SBB Cargo AG into SBB AG for accounting purposes as of 1 January 2027 and will run it together with SBB Cargo International (75 per cent owned by SBB AG) and ChemOil Logistics (100 per cent) as the Freight division; employees move to SBB AG on 1 June 2027 without any change to their terms of employment. This completes the process begun in 2023 with the full takeover of SBB Cargo; the goal remains self-sustaining freight operations by 2033. The half-year report for 2026 shows freight breaking even for the first time in a long while, with a result of CHF 2 million. (LOK Report, 26 Aug 2026)
