SBB has opened a hall extension of about 6,500 m² with six work bays at its Olten works; construction took roughly two years and the official opening was on 6 February 2026. Exterior surfaces of trains can be painted, bonded, ground, welded and sandblasted there, and a transfer table with a transport bridge plus an air-conditioned bonding track make the facility unique in Switzerland so far. It plays a key role in renewing the Zurich S-Bahn fleets (69 Regio-Dosto and 61 double-deck multiple units), which are to stay in service seven years longer; more than CHF 500 million is being invested in total.
