Tamedia to cut 34 full-time jobs in its news desks

Media group Tamedia is cutting 34 full-time positions in its news desks in Zurich, Bern, Basel, Lausanne and Geneva, 30 of them in the newsrooms and 4 on the print desk; 41 people are affected, 28 in German-speaking and 9 in French-speaking Switzerland. Tamedia cites the shrinking advertising market and the shift of advertising money to international platforms; those affected are to be informed by the end of October 2026, and a consultation is under way in French-speaking Switzerland.
