On 7/8 September 2026 JLR announced it will cut up to 4,000 jobs over two years through a voluntary redundancy programme aimed mainly at its roughly 26,000 salaried and management staff. The aim is GBP 1.7 billion in savings and a lower break-even of 300,000 vehicles; the group cites Chinese competition, tariffs and the lingering effects of the 2025 cyberattack. The UK government announced a meeting between the business secretary and JLR's leadership (ITV, 7 September 2026). Definitive entry; the 30 July 2026 announcement ('several hundred jobs', entry 095cc18e) is treated as an earlier stage of the same programme and no longer carries a figure. Addition (source dated 7 Sept 2026): The cuts correspond to around 9% of the roughly 43,000 staff worldwide and are expected to fall mainly on the UK head office; according to the company, manufacturing staff are not included in the programme (What Car?, 7 Sept 2026).
