On 30 July 2026 the French government selected five ports under the France 2030 programme (administered by ADEME) to share almost €260 million in grants to upgrade their infrastructure for the manufacturing, assembly and shipping of floating offshore wind turbines. Cherbourg, for example, is to receive €10.5 million of ADEME funding against a €30 million total investment. The funding is expected to trigger close to €1 billion of investment overall and to create a network of complementary industrial hubs on the Atlantic, Channel and Mediterranean coasts; the backdrop is France's target of 6 GW of floating wind by 2040. Announced on 30 July 2026. Update (21 Aug 2026): the grants go to Marseille-Fos (€82.3m, DEOS project, €303m total cost), Nantes–Saint-Nazaire (almost €60m, Éole), Brest (€58m, InFloW), Port-la-Nouvelle (€48m, NOUVEOL) and Cherbourg (€10.5m, Flamands 0 quay). At Fos construction is due to start in early 2028 with phased handovers between late 2029 and mid-2030, and Port-la-Nouvelle targets 2030; the source gives no date for the other ports. 31 December 2030 is therefore a placeholder for the target year 2030 (offshoreWIND.biz, 21 Aug 2026).
