- The minister for Europe and foreign affairs, Jean-Noël Barrot, and transport minister Philippe Tabarot introduce a bill in the Council of Ministers on 4 February 2026 to approve the agreement with Italy, signed in Milan on 12 April 2024, on maintenance and operation of the French section of the Cuneo–Breil–Ventimiglia line
Maintenance costs will in future be shared between France and Italy according to use, whereas Italy previously bore them alone; this ends more than 15 years of uncertainty over funding for operation and investment and is meant to allow the work needed for better service in the Roya valley. The article gives no amounts.
The line links the Italian cities of Cuneo and Ventimiglia, and its middle section with the stations of Tende and Breil-sur-Roya lies in France. The new agreement replaces a largely outdated arrangement from 1970; the ratification bill is to be debated in both chambers of parliament, and transport minister Tabarot calls ratification a priority so that the arrangements for investment can be settled quickly.
