Tarascon pulp mill faces liquidation, 275 jobs lost

On 27 July 2026 the Toulouse commercial court rejected investment banker Matthieu Pigasse's takeover bid for Fibre Excellence as inadmissible, because a condition precedent regarding state aid had not been met — the government had refused the public support required. This seals the liquidation of the Tarascon pulp mill and its roughly 275 jobs; employees responded by blockading the site. The sister plant at Saint-Gaudens (Haute-Garonne) won a reprieve until the end of August 2026 after an anonymous buyer expressed late interest.
