On 01.10.2026 Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu's French government adopts the draft 2027 budget bill (PLF) and social security financing bill (PLFSS) in the Council of Ministers.

An effort of €43bn in the PLF, €54bn together with measures already decided, is meant to cut the public deficit from 5.4% of GDP in 2026 to 5% in 2027.

The government expects growth of 1% in 2027; public debt nevertheless rises from 119.3% to 121.7% of GDP and interest costs to €91.2bn. Measures include higher receipts from VAT and income tax, a levy on kerosene suppliers to fund sustainable aviation fuels and, in the PLFSS, freezing APL housing benefits at their 2026 level. Both bills were tabled in the National Assembly on 06.10.2026; parliament has 70 days until 26.11.2026 for the PLF and 50 days until 17.12.2026 for the PLFSS (Le Club des Juristes, 01.10.2026; second source: LégiFiscal, 01.10.2026).
