BlaBlaCar plans to close French bus business, 40 jobs affected

BlaBlaCar announced on 21 April 2026 that it intends to shut its loss-making bus business in France and has opened an information and consultation procedure with its works council; if the plan is confirmed, the group could withdraw completely from the market for liberalised long-distance coach services from 4 January 2027. 40 jobs are to go immediately; BlaBlaCar cites structural economic difficulties and recurring, substantial operating losses, but wants to stay active as a marketplace for independent coach companies. The road-haulage association OTRE warns of consequences for around 60 subcontractors that run lines for BlaBlaCar Bus, and FlixBus would be left without competition. (LOK Report, 23 Apr 2026)
