SIJ to cut about 300 jobs, mostly through attrition

As part of a restructuring, the Slovenian steel group SIJ plans to cut about 300 of its roughly 3,300 jobs in Slovenia, around 9%, mainly through natural attrition, retirement and limited replacement, above all in shared services and production administration. Management cites sharply higher energy costs and Chinese competition; a refinancing running until the end of 2028 has been agreed with the banks, and the group is also looking for a strategic partner.
