- €40m fine on Kingspan for incorrect and misleading information in the merger review of its planned Trimo acquisition
Four infringements of the EU Merger Regulation found; Kingspan had abandoned the Trimo acquisition
The European Commission fined Irish insulation maker Kingspan €40m because, at least negligently, it supplied incorrect or misleading information during the review of its 2021 plan to buy Slovenian panel maker Trimo, including on market penetration rates, the availability of bidding data, the role of board members and R&D for mineral fibre sandwich panels. The probe had been running since November 2022; of the six objections in the March 2024 Statement of Objections, the Commission dropped two. Kingspan ultimately abandoned the acquisition (European Commission, 8 Oct 2026).
