Alstom lays foundation stone for Matosinhos train plant, 300 jobs

The foundation stone for a new Alstom train plant was laid at Guifões (Matosinhos) on 30 June 2026; the plant is to build 81 three-car suburban trains for CP (Comboios de Portugal). The 20,000 m² plant is due to be finished by 2028, to create 300 direct and around 1,000 indirect jobs and to deliver its first train in 2029. It forms part of CP's order for 153 trains (117 plus 36 additional) worth EUR 1,064 million, with delivery dates brought forward by almost two years.
