France is mandating the introduction of the Visio videoconferencing platform for all public authorities by 2027. This is part of the strategy to become independent from non-European software providers (Zoom, MS Teams). Goal: strengthen data security, reduce strategic dependencies and save costs. Estimated savings: around €1 million per year per 100,000 users who leave licensed solutions.
Visio had been introduced in experimental form a year earlier and so far has 40,000 regular users. The new decree rolls the software out to 200,000 further users (the national scientific research centre CNRS, the statutory health insurance, the public finances directorate-general, the defence ministry). The software is hosted by Outscale (a Dassault Systèmes subsidiary). The transcription feature is powered by AI from start-up Pyannote. Real-time subtitles by AI lab Kyutai are planned from summer 2026. Developed in cooperation with the French cybersecurity agency.
