Commission approves €40.5m French fuel-price aid for transport and farming

- On 9 October 2026 the European Commission approves two French aid schemes under the Middle East Crisis Temporary State Aid Framework (METSAF)
€23.3m for transport companies and €17.2m for agricultural, fishery and aquaculture businesses; loans at 3.8% with a state guarantee, €5,000 to €50,000 per business, up to 3 years
The schemes are aimed at businesses whose fuel costs make up at least 5% of annual turnover; the aid takes the form of soft loans with a 12-month deferral of principal. The legal basis is the METSAF adopted on 29 April 2026 (European Commission, Daily News, 9 Oct 2026).
