Enefit closes Narva oil shale quarry, about 100 jobs lost

Enefit Industry, a subsidiary of Eesti Energia, is closing the Narva oil shale quarry in summer 2026 and moving all mining to the Estonia mine in Alutaguse municipality once the new Enefit 280-2 oil plant has started up. Of about 350 quarry workers, nearly two-thirds are to be offered jobs at the mine or elsewhere in the group, about 70 stay on for closure and restoration work until 2028/29, and around 100 lose their jobs (ERR, 31 Mar 2026).
