Adif is electrifying the 315 km conventional railway line Zaragoza-Teruel-Sagunto, including new traction substations at Cariñena and Villafranca and the adaptation of 45 grade separations and 19 tunnels. Work on the Zaragoza-Teruel section is well advanced (poles ~90%, gantries ~80%, catenary ~30% complete) and is targeted for completion by mid-2026, with electrified service expected to start in the second half of 2026. Reopening of the full line has been repeatedly delayed due to ground instability at tunnel worksites and archaeological finds, most recently pushed to the first four months of 2026.
