In spring 2025, Lisbon's transport operator Carris announced construction plans for a new tram line 16E between Praça do Comércio (historically Terreiro do Paço) and Parque Tejo. The roughly 12 km line will add 18 new stops; estimated cost is EUR 160 million. Phase 1, to Santa Apolónia station, is expected by 2029, with full completion to Parque Tejo per the source not until 2031 — later than the originally assumed end-2028 date.
