Estonian Railways (Eesti Raudtee) has begun electrification works on the Tapa–Narva line. The contract for the contact network and traction substations (EUR 81 million) plus a subsequent 5-year maintenance agreement (EUR 2.9 million) went to GRK Eesti, which previously carried out the Aegviidu–Tapa–Tartu electrification; the contact network is due to be operational in 2027. In parallel, track straightening and station reconstruction work (EUR 17.5 million contract with GoTrack) is underway through 2026 to enable speeds up to 160 km/h; the project is part of expanding Estonia's electrified rail network from 237 km to over 700 km, largely EU co-financed.
