SBB is restructuring its single-wagonload freight business from the timetable change on 13 December 2026: about 50 of today's roughly 280 service points with too little demand will no longer be served in single-wagonload traffic (but will still be served on customer request as block trains), while volumes are meant to stay at 98 per cent of current levels. About 200 employees are affected (roughly 130 in German-speaking Switzerland, 40 in Ticino and 30 in western Switzerland), mostly through a change of workplace according to SBB, with dismissals said to remain the exception. The SEV union, which had already demanded a halt to the planned cuts on 10 March 2026, criticises the sixth tranche of the G-enesis reorganisation and warns of the loss of dozens of jobs in cargo production.
