On 24 July 2026 Dŵr Cymru Welsh Water launched the market engagement phase for the Cwm Taf Water Supply Strategy — at £667.2m the largest infrastructure investment in the company's history. Its core elements are a new Dan-y-Castell water treatment works (£362m) and an upgrade of the Llwyn-onn works (£194m), replacing two plants that are nearly 100 years old (Pontsticill and Cantref). More than 400,000 customers in South Wales are served. Procurement is to follow regulator Ofwat's Direct Procurement for Customers model; 24 July marks the investor and market outreach ahead of the formal tender. The project itself has been known since late 2025. Announced on 24.07.2026; according to Smart Water Magazine, construction is due to start in 2027 (subject to planning approval) with regulatory completion targeted for 2032, followed by a year of testing before full operation (Smart Water Magazine, 17.11.2025). The scheme is not yet in operation (the date 31.12.2032 is a placeholder for the year).
