On 15 September 2025, Renfe resumed passenger services on the roughly 180 km, single-track, non-electrified Zafra–Huelva line, which had been suspended since June 2023, following a comprehensive c. EUR 250 million upgrade by infrastructure manager Adif. Works included renewing track and sleepers over about 90.5 km, drainage improvements, removal of 14 speed restrictions, and a new signalling/traffic-control system (single-track automatic block with centralised traffic control, GSM-R). Journey time between Huelva and Zafra was cut by 25 minutes to 2h52m; service initially runs Friday-Sunday with one leisure-oriented train per direction.
