On 11 September 2026 Ericsson launched a collective dismissal procedure for 131 employees (56 staff, 64 middle managers, 11 executives) at its Erzelli research site in Genoa, closing its entire R&D Optical department and part of another R&D unit. The company cites the ongoing decline of the Italian telecoms market as the reason (ANSA, 11 Sept 2026).
