Event
On 23 Oct 2026 Spain's digital ministry provisionally proposes €17.45m for Orange España and Telefónica under its 5G programme for very rural areas

129 sites for 358 eligible zones without mobile coverage; Orange €12.25m (72 sites), Telefónica €5.20m (57 sites); objections possible for ten working days

The ERDF-co-funded programme was launched in March 2026; only Orange and Telefónica receive funds, while Vodafone and Digi get nothing. With 358 zones the award stays far below the roughly 5,000 zones first identified. Galicia receives the largest share at €4.83m (The Objective, 23 Oct 2026; second source: Expansión, 23 Oct 2026).
