British bakery chain Greggs plans to reshape its manufacturing over two and a half years, ending production at Enfield (Greater London), North Lakes near Penrith, Pettigrews in Kelso and Seaham (County Durham), with about 740 jobs at risk. Enfield and Treforest (Wales) would remain only as distribution centres, while product ranges shrink in Glasgow and Manchester; the overhaul is put at about £60m and is meant to save roughly £20m across the 2028 and 2029 financial years. Consultations with staff and unions are starting, Greggs says no final decisions have been taken, and its shops are not affected (PA/Enfield Independent, 30 Sep 2026; second source: Bdaily, 30 Sep 2026).
