On 20 July 2026 Nestlé officially announced the construction of a new integrated plant and logistics centre in Mantua (Lombardy) that from 2029 will produce premium wet food for dogs and cats under the Purina brand and other Nestlé brands. The CHF 520 million (around €560 million) investment expands Purina's European production network to 15 sites; Italy is supporting the project with around €60 million of state aid, already approved by the EU Commission the previous year. Nestlé did not give a specific job figure (second source: swissinfo/Reuters). Update (2 September 2026): The Lombardy region approved the roughly €560 million project (wet pet-food plant plus logistics hub for several group brands in Mantova-Valdaro) on 2 September 2026; production start planned for 2029, reportedly about 300 direct jobs (ticonsiglio.com, 7 September 2026).
