On 7 October 2026 the European Commission cleared a €750,000 Spanish aid scheme that reimburses part of the increased fuel costs of businesses in primary agricultural production in the Balearic Islands. The aid takes the form of direct grants of €0.10 per litre covering the extra costs incurred between 1 March and 30 June 2026, which the Commission attributes to the Middle East crisis; the scheme runs until 31 December 2026. It was assessed under the Middle East Crisis Temporary State Aid Framework (METSAF) adopted on 29 April 2026 and under Article 107(3)(c) of the Treaty on the Functioning of the EU (European Commission, Daily News, 7 Oct 2026).
