Tallinn plans new Liivalaia tram line
- Location
- Tallinn – city centre (Pärnu maantee/Tartu maantee) to Kristiine district · 🇪🇪 Estonia
- Project
- Liivalaia Tram Line (Tallinn)
- Investment
- Not broken out per line; Estonian media (ERR) report combined costs of around €52.8 million for the two new Tallinn tram lines (Liivalaia + Pelguranna), roughly 70% EU/state funding and 30% city of Tallinn; the Estonian state separately earmarked about €40 million for new tram lines, usable until 31 Oct 2029
- Status
- In planning / preliminary design (construction could begin as early as 2026, after design and public consultation phases)
The planned tram line is to be built in two phases: first a connection along Liivalaia street between the existing lines at Pärnu maantee and Tartu maantee, then an extension via Suur-Ameerika street to the Kristiine Shopping Centre, where a new public-transport hub (Lilleküla) is envisioned. Per Wikipedia, Liivalaia is one of three priority network extensions for Tallinn (alongside Järve and Pelgulinna) targeted for completion by 2030, financed partly through an Estonian state programme running until 31 October 2029. Exact route length and a Liivalaia-specific investment figure were not clearly separated out in the available sources.
