Flotation Energy and Vårgrønn plan Green Volt wind farm off Aberdeen

The Green Volt offshore wind farm is planned about 80 km off the coast of Aberdeen in the North Sea, on the decommissioned Ettrick and Blackbird oil fields, using floating foundation technology. It comprises 35 turbines of 16 MW each (560 MW total capacity), with a first 400 MW phase awarded a Contract for Difference in September 2024. The project is a joint venture between Flotation Energy and Vårgrønn (Eni Plenitude/HitecVision); commissioning is targeted for 2029, with an estimated investment of around GBP 2.5 billion.
