- Royal Decree transposing the EU directive on transparent working conditions
On 8 September 2026 Spain's Council of Ministers approved a Royal Decree transposing EU Directive 2019/1152 on transparent and predictable working conditions. Employers must now clearly state base salary, allowances, calculation methods for variable pay, working hours and workplace in employment contracts; employees also gain a right to information about algorithmic systems used to determine working conditions or dismissals. The decree takes effect within 20 days of publication in the BOE (Moncloa/Newtral, 8-10 Sept 2026).
A structural change for the Spanish labour market: it ends the practice of contracts referring only generically to collective agreements, mandates disclosure of pay components, and creates a new right to transparency around algorithmic management (Council of Ministers decision on 8 Sept 2026, reported by Moncloa.com and Newtral on 9-10 Sept 2026).
