The European Commission proposes €945 million from the EU Solidarity Fund for Spain after the October 2024 DANA floods and approves the reallocation of €645 million of cohesion funds through the RESTORE mechanism

Together almost €1.6 billion for rebuilding infrastructure, housing, health and education facilities and businesses in the Valencia region; the EUSF allocation would be the second largest since 2002, and RESTORE funds carry an EU co-financing rate of up to 95%.

The European Commission has proposed to Parliament and the Council that Spain receive €945 million from the EU Solidarity Fund for the October 2024 DANA floods, and has approved shifting a further €645 million of Spanish cohesion funding through the RESTORE mechanism. The money is meant to restore roads, metro lines, health and education centres, housing and small businesses in the Valencia region; the Commission says the floods killed more than 230 people. Once Parliament and the Council approve, the EUSF balance (less the €100 million advance paid in April 2025) is to be paid in one go, whereas RESTORE money is released gradually as expenditure is incurred.
