Publisher Reach (Daily Mirror, Daily Express and regional titles such as the Manchester Evening News) plans to cut about 220 full-time editorial posts in the UK and Ireland while creating roughly 60 new roles in video and subscriptions, a net loss of around 160. The AberdeenLive, KentLive and GalwayBeo (Ireland) sites will close; Reach attributes the move to falling traffic caused by AI overviews and Google algorithm changes. The journalists' union NUJ strongly criticised the cuts (TheJournal.ie, 16.09.2026).
