Electrolux plans to close its plant in Cerreto d'Esi in the Marche region, part of a total reduction of 1,700 jobs in Italy. Following the announcement, the Italian government convened crisis talks with the company. Update (4 September 2026): After the MIMIT-mediated talks failed, Electrolux confirmed the closure with no alternative; strikes at all plants were called for 15 September 2026 (see layoffs follow-up entry dated 4 September 2026). Update (5 Oct 2026): Electrolux withdrew its plan for 1,700 dismissals and instead offers 1,250 voluntary exits over three years; the Cerreto d'Esi plant (170 employees) will still close, the 31 December date is dropped and a reindustrialisation plan is to follow. The next ministry meeting is on 29 October 2026 (Il Post, 5 Oct 2026; see the watchlist item and layoffs follow-up b962433e).
