Great Western Railway planned to open the first stage of the Mid Cornwall Metro with the summer timetable on 17 May 2026: alternating regional and long-distance trains run hourly on the single-track Par–Newquay line, with a direct service to and from London Paddington in summer. This is made possible by the completion of the modernisation works on the branch line and by 26 Class 175 diesel units taken over from Transport for Wales. In the second stage the whole line to Falmouth is due to open in early 2027 (announced on 12 May 2026); the date is a placeholder: the article gives only the start of 2027 for Falmouth, and the end of the first quarter is used (LOK Report, 12 May 2026).
