- Status
- Approved/planned
Norfolk Boreas is planned around 47–80 km off the Norfolk coast in the North Sea with an installed capacity of roughly 1,400 MW (1.4 GW), enough to supply about 1.5 million homes; unlike its sister projects, the turbine type/count has not yet been finally ordered. Originally developed by Vattenfall (Development Consent Order Dec 2021, paused July 2023 due to cost inflation), it was acquired by RWE in March 2024 together with Norfolk Vanguard West and East. RWE is currently prioritising the sister projects (Vanguard West: FID summer 2026, commissioning 2029; Vanguard East: commissioning 2030) — no turbine order has been placed yet for Boreas, offshore construction start is expected from 2027, and a firm commissioning year has not yet been set.
