- Rollout under way but delayed; study names 2055 as possible end date, new line-by-line timetable announced by 2027
The trigger is a new study that considers it possible that ETCS will be in place across the whole Norwegian network only in 2055, more than 20 years later than thought; the cause is supply problems, and the three suppliers Siemens, Alstom and Thales keep reporting delays. The railway directorate and Bane NOR have announced an updated line-by-line timetable by 2027; new lines such as the stretch along Lake Mjøsa on the Dovrebanen and the new Vestfoldbanen alignment Drammen–Kobbervikdalen had to enter service with conventional signalling instead of ETCS. The date is a placeholder: 2055 is the possible point in time named in the study, not an agreed deadline. (LOK Report, 13 Aug 2026)
