Swissgrid is replacing the existing 1950s-era high-voltage line between Airolo and Lavorgo with a new roughly 23 km, 380 kV overhead line carrying an integrated 132 kV SBB railway line (59 pylons, Aldrey 1000/800 conductors), running along the right side of the Leventina valley through the Ticino municipalities of Airolo, Quinto, Dalpe and Faido. The building application was filed in 2020; after Switzerland's Federal Office of Energy (BFE) halted the process in early 2024 requesting revisions, Swissgrid resubmitted the documents in autumn 2025. Planned investment exceeds CHF 90 million; commissioning is targeted by 2030 per the tracked project list, though the source itself gives no specific in-service date.
