EU advances the Savings and Investments Union (SIU) to integrate capital markets

Savings to be channelled into productive investment; investment need of €750-800bn a year to 2030 according to the Draghi report

The European Union initiates the Savings and Investments Union (SIU) to create better financial opportunities for EU citizens and to improve capital market integration. Goal: connect savings with productive investments, more choice for savers to build wealth, growth opportunities for European companies. The Draghi report estimates the additional investment need at €750-800 billion per year by 2030 – necessary for climate change, technological transformation, geopolitical dynamics and increased defence spending. Focus: SMEs and innovative companies that cannot rely solely on bank financing. By integrating capital markets (alongside integrated banking systems), the SIU can effectively connect savings and investment needs.
