Event
On 26.10.2026 the European Commission proposes a new Frontex regulation that strengthens border protection and makes the agency the central body for returns

The standing corps is to grow gradually to 30,000 officers, including a new reserve of 17,000; the Commission also proposes a regulation on digitalising returns

The plan also includes a quick reaction force, an online monitoring centre and a dedicated return coordination centre, and Frontex could buy, lease and jointly procure equipment. Parliament and Council still have to negotiate the proposal (European Commission, 26.10.2026).
