Footwear group Baťa plans to phase out manufacturing at Dolní Němčí (Uherské Hradiště district), its only factory in Central Europe, during 2027; the plant has made shoes since 1970. The company says the operation is no longer viable under current market conditions; 92 employees are affected. Baťa will remain present in the Czech Republic through its store network (ČT24 / ČTK, 29 Sep 2026). Update (06.10.2026): according to the union, staff will leave in two stages, roughly half on 31.12.2026 and the rest on 31.03.2027; the buildings are to be cleared between April and August 2027 (ČTK via e15, 06.10.2026).
