- On 13 October 2026 the Czech Chamber of Deputies backs in first reading the government bill for an extraordinary tax on refineries ("Lex Unipetrol"); opposition motions to reject it or return it to the government fail, and the budget committee is next
The tax targets the margin increase over 2025 for tax years 2026 and 2027; the finance ministry expects about CZK 5.5bn in revenue for 2026 alone, all going to the state budget; likely only Orlen Unipetrol's two refineries are affected. The law is not yet finally adopted
The Chamber of Deputies passed the government's bill for a windfall tax on refinery margins in first reading and rejected two opposition motions. It taxes the margin increase over 2025 for 2026 and 2027, with the finance ministry expecting about CZK 5.5bn for 2026; the opposition warns about the retroactive effect. This is only the first reading, with the budget committee next (České noviny, 13 Oct 2026; E15, 13 Oct 2026).
