Municipal utility Öresundskraft took the final investment decision on 30.09.2026 for CO2 capture at the Filbornaverket waste-to-energy plant in Helsingborg, which it says makes it the first waste incineration plant in the EU to do so. The plant is to capture 200,000 t of CO2 a year at a capture rate of at least 90%; Linde supplies the plant and operates the interim storage in the port of Halmstad, from where Northern Lights ships the CO2 for permanent storage beneath the North Sea. The investment amounts to SEK 2.4bn including around SEK 830m of grants from the EU Innovation Fund and the Swedish Energy Agency, and construction is to start in late 2026. Announced on 01.10.2026; the date is the planned start of operation (placeholder: only the year 2029 is given) (Öresundskraft, 01.10.2026; second source: Dagens industri, 01.10.2026).
