On 2 August 2026 Hungarian state railway MÁV announced the renewal of a 7.5 km section between Kiskunfélegyháza and Gátér on the Kiskunfélegyháza–Orosháza line. From 3 August 2026 until the timetable change on 12 December 2026, 16 km of rail and 12,500 concrete sleepers will be replaced, 13,000 tonnes of ballast laid, seven level crossings rebuilt, two smaller bridges and a culvert refurbished, and two asphalted platforms built. The current 30 km/h speed restriction is to be raised to 60 km/h from early 2027, cutting journey times by about eight minutes. No investment figure was given; replacement buses will run between Kiskunfélegyháza and Szentes during the works.
