MOL opens its first biomethane plant in Szarvas

MOL has expanded the Szarvas biogas plant it acquired in 2023 with an upgrading unit that purifies biogas into grid-quality biomethane; it is the group's first biomethane plant and the third in Hungary. About 7m m³ of gas a year corresponds to the consumption of roughly 8,500 households; the plant processes over 40,000 t of meat-industry waste, 53,000 t of livestock residues and about 18,000 t of agricultural substrate a year. The technology came from Italy's Gruppo AB; the report gives no investment figure (economica.net, 14 Oct 2026).
