- Swiss Federal Council approves message on Broadband Promotion Act
On 9 September 2026 the Federal Council approved its message to Parliament on a Broadband Promotion Act: a time-limited support programme (2030–2037, extendable by up to 3 years) for expanding fibre-optic or wireless broadband in sparsely populated areas the market alone would not serve with gigabit speeds. It foresees up to CHF 730 million in funding (CHF 365 million federal share), with cantons covering half; around 10% of Swiss households/businesses would otherwise lack modern broadband once copper networks are phased out.
Cabinet-level decision (Federal Council) on 9 September 2026 to forward the legislative message to Parliament; support programme of up to CHF 730 million for fibre/broadband rollout in rural areas, 2030–2037 (BAKOM, admin.ch, 9 Sep 2026).
