Alkmaar rebuilds Kogendijk/Helderseweg junction into a turbo roundabout

On 31 July 2026 the municipality of Alkmaar launched the tender for rebuilding the N9 junction with Kogendijk and Helderseweg — considered dangerous — into a turbo roundabout with a separate tunnel for cyclists and pedestrians. The contract is being awarded under a construction-team model: the selected contractor first develops the design further together with the municipality and then delivers the works. The budget is €8.5m; if all goes to plan, completion is scheduled for the end of 2028.
