The 14.3 km Holm–Nykirke new line on the Vestfold Line between Holm (Sande) and Nykirke opened on 28 November 2016. Its centerpiece is the 12.3 km double-track Holmestrandsporten tunnel through Holmestrandfjellet (construction cost approx. NOK 6.6 billion), which houses the new underground Holmestrand station about 150 m inside the mountain. Designed for speeds up to 250 km/h, the line cut Vestfold Line travel time by roughly five minutes.
