- The federal government adopts the ÖBB framework plan 2027–2032 in the Council of Ministers on 17 June 2026, with investments of around EUR 19.5 billion
On top of the roughly EUR 19.5 billion, around EUR 5 billion is earmarked for maintenance; because of budget consolidation the Vienna airport link (Flughafenspange) slips by two years to 2037, the Brenner northern access stays at 2039, and the Nordbahn (2034) and the Puchberg line are completed sooner.
On 17 June 2026 the Council of Ministers adopted the ÖBB framework plan for 2027 to 2032: it provides for investments of around EUR 19.5 billion in new construction, upgrades and train protection on the rail network, plus around EUR 5 billion for maintenance. The federal government will invest more than EUR 3 billion a year in 2027–2029, then EUR 3.2 billion (2030), EUR 3.3 billion (2031) and EUR 3.8 billion (2032). Because the 2027/2028 double budget leaves around EUR 500 million less for those two years, the government pushes the Vienna airport link (Flughafenspange) back by two years to 2037 and keeps the Brenner northern access at 2039; the Nordbahn (2034) and the Puchberg line are completed sooner, while Meidling–Mödling (2037) and the Köstendorf–Salzburg expansion (2046) come later. Overall, 87% of the previous projects continue on schedule, and ÖBB chief executive Matthä says every project already started will be completed. (LOK Report, 18 Jun 2026)
